Still two days to go until the start of the 25th edition of the prestigious Novotel-Cup.
Yesterday, the FLVB and the Novotel presented this year's edition during the press conference in the Hotel Novotel Centre to the media representatives. The FLVB was represented by the members of the CA and the two national coaches Burkhard Disch and Detlev Schönberg. For the Novotel group the general manager of the Novotel Luxembourg Kirchberg Eric Laporte, the general manager of the Novotel Luxembourg Centre Jérôme Lefevre, the manager of Suite Novotel Luxembourg Sonia Zaied, André Pecheur from Novotel Kirchberg as well as Charlotte Roger, who was already present when the Novotel-Cup made its first steps, took part.
The FLVB president François Maroldt opened the press conference at 7pm and underlined the successful and long partnership between the federation and the Novotel.
"Without the partnership this tournament would not exist in this way.", stressed Burkhard Disch, technical director of the FLVB and coach of the men's national team. "The Novotel-Cup is more than important as it offers us the possibility to compete with international opponents during the winter as first preparation step for the international tournaments in summer.”
Following a break due to injury and studies, Arnaud Maroldt rejoined the men's team as diagonal player whereas Djamel Belhaouci will not be present for the Novotel-Cup. The three players from Strassen, who will face Tel Aviv in the 1/16 finals of the CEV Challenge Cup next week, will nevertheless be present for the upcoming weekend. However, the physical exposure with respect to training participation shall be reduced.
Regarding the women's team, Detlev Schönberg, who took over the team in November last year, is looking forward to his first Novotel-Cup. "Especially the comparison with the first year of the German national team represents a good opportunity for my team to evaluate where we stand." Isabelle and Samirah Frisch will not take part this year in the national team competitions due to their studies, whereas middle blocker Lynn Elouardi retired in the beginning of the season. Maryse Welsch, who played for the beach youth national team the last years, joined as libero.
Following the various questions from the journalists, Carlo Hastert, for many years a main part of the FLVB and still an active member within the Luxembourgish Volleyball family, gave the audience a charming insight into the first hours of the Novotel-Cup.
"The Novotel-Cup is our way to return to Luxembourg the possibilities the country offers our company.", closed Eric Laporte from Novotel Luxembourg Kirchberg the press conference.
